Bind Email & Merge Accounts

After binding your email, you can log in via email on the Chrome extension and web portal — no need to look up your UUID every time. If the email is already registered to another account, the system will automatically merge both accounts' data.

1. Why Bind an Email

ETN has two login systems:

Login MethodEntry PointDescription
WeChat AuthMini ProgramAccount created automatically on first open
Email CodeChrome Extension, WebEnter email + verification code to log in

If you use both the mini program and the extension, you may end up with two separate accounts — one from the mini program, one from email. Binding your email allows you to:

  • Link your mini program account and email account into one
  • Log in to the extension/web with the same data
  • Unify membership, clipping history, tags, and Notion configuration

2. Binding Steps

Entry: WeChat Mini Program → Profile → Bind Email

Step 1: Enter Email

Go to the email binding page and enter your email address.

Step 2: Get Verification Code

Tap "Get Code". A code will be sent to your email (valid for 60 seconds).

Email Already Registered

If the email you entered is already registered with ETN (e.g., you previously signed up via the extension), the system will prompt:

"This email is already registered. Binding will merge account data."

It will show the email account's basic info (membership status, Notion authorization). Tap "Continue Binding" to proceed — the system will automatically merge both accounts.

Step 3: Enter Code

Enter the 6-digit verification code you received.

Step 4: Confirm

Tap "Confirm Binding".

  • Normal binding (email not registered elsewhere): Binding succeeds, returns to profile.
  • Account merge (email belongs to another account): System automatically merges data and shows merge details (see below).

3. Account Merging

When Does Merging Happen

Merging is triggered when the email you bind in the mini program already belongs to another ETN account.

Typical scenario:

  • You first registered account A with email via the Chrome extension
  • Later, you logged into the mini program via WeChat, creating account B
  • Binding the same email in the mini program → Account B's data merges into Account A

Merge Rules

Data TypeMerge Strategy
Clipping recordsAll migrated to target account

After Merging

  • UUID changes: You'll use the target account's (email account's) UUID after merge
  • Mini program account deactivated: The original mini program account is marked inactive
  • Re-login required: If you were logged into the extension with the old UUID, you'll need to log in again with email

Merge Result

After merging, the system shows a summary:

Account merge successful!
✓ Migrated 42 clippings
✓ Migrated 15 tags
✓ Merged membership info
✓ Merged Notion configuration

Tap "Done" to return to your profile.

4. FAQ

Q: Can I still use the mini program after binding email?

A: Yes. Binding email doesn't affect mini program usage — you still log in via WeChat.

Q: My UUID changed after merge. What about the extension?

A: You'll need to re-login on the extension. We recommend using email verification code login instead of UUID.

Q: Will my clipping records be lost after merge?

A: No. All records from both accounts are preserved in the merged account.

Q: Both accounts have membership. What happens?

A: The system keeps the higher-tier membership. For example, if one is annual and the other is lifetime, you'll keep lifetime. Same tier keeps the longer expiry date.

Q: Can I undo a merge?

A: No. Merging is irreversible. Please confirm before proceeding. Contact support if you have questions.

Q: I only want to bind email, not merge. What do I do?

A: If the email hasn't been registered with ETN before, it's just a normal binding with no merge. If it's already registered, merging is automatic — use a different unregistered email to avoid it.
